Flamingo Literacy Matrix by the University of Florida Lastinger Center for Learning is a competency-based professional development program that allows practitioners to gain specialized skills that will support students’ literacy success.
My production team and I created a 3-minute promotional video for the program. We aimed to inform viewers the benefits of Flamingo Literacy Matrix in a visually engaging and concise manner. The approximate duration to complete the project was two months.
As the lead illustrator, I rendered seamless backgrounds on Adobe Illustrator, established a playful style, and created diverse characters with an emphasis on androgyny. I worked with Khoi Vu and Ash Long to bring the storyboard to life, achieve aesthetic consistency, and optimize file organization to transition from Adobe Illustrator to Adobe After Effects. With regard to my design decisions, I was always cognizant of social issues in order to avoid stereotypes, tokenism, and cultural appropriation. I also ensured that additional iconography complied with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and exemplified visual accessibility.
